"What is the greatest barrier standing between you and your dream; and how can it be avoided?"
Every child in the world has the opportunity to dream, no matter their conditions in life, poverty or superfluity. As a growing child, I, like many others have wanted to make my dream come true. If I was given no limits as to deciding on an ultimate dream, I’d say to be a musician and to record my music for the world. However, I don’t need to get famous and have my face plastered on every music magazine existing in the world. A cassette tape with songs I’ve created is satisfactory enough for me; as long as others can listen to it and enjoy it. The only way, though, to get my music heard would be to promote it. For instance, concerts, demo tapes, opening for a larger venues etc. would expose my music to others who are willing to listen.
The greatest barrier encumbering my dream from becoming a reality, are the doubts I have about the kind of financial stability it offers. Being a skeptic on almost every issue in life, I prefer not to get my hopes up; in such ways I’m a realist. It takes several years to build a status that would give me enough financial stability so I wouldn’t be struggling to pay the bills just to stay alive. Moreover, the irony of it all, is that I’d be spending money left and right just get myself promoted enough, only to make up for the money I’ve been spending to make myself known. I don’t particularly take pleasure from a senseless cycle like that. Despite it all, my music will be heard and that would be all that counts. Money is merely materialistic.
Although I don’t exactly relish the idea of becoming a musician who is paranoid about what the fans think or say, I’d need the money to makeup for what I had spent to get myself to that kind of status. However, the most fulfilling thing about being a musician is knowing that you’ve done your music for yourself and not for anyone else but yourself. Money may be a materialistic matter of life, but the only way for me to get around this obstacle would be to walk straight into the hurdle and knock it over dealing with splinters and pain it may inflict.
The music business is costly, but with only luck on your side, it may be worth it.
